Room A
Thursday, September 19, 2013

It feels like summer has returned for a few short days!  We decided that Mr. Weather Frog needed to wear shorts, sandals, tank top, sunglasses and a hat today and might need a touch of suntan lotion for the hot weather we are having.   We have continued this week with our study of the farm and our number of the month our color and shape and we continued our talk about Creation and our study of the letter E.  We had lots of fun today learning, playing and exploring.

Reminders

Backpacks
Please make sure your child is coming to school with a full size backpack and that you are checking it daily when they return home.  Your child's folder is in there and it needs to be checked for important paper as well as their alphabet coloring page they have done for the day.

Arrival Time
Please remember that it is important for your child to be here between 7:45 and 8:15.  It helps for a smoother start to our day as a class and for your child to be able to experience everything we have to offer for the day.  When your child attends preschool they will be expected to arrive by the proper time and this is a great way to get into that habit.

Outerwear
We are going to start seeing cooler temps so it is best practice to have in your child's full size backpack a jacket or sweatshirt in case the weather changes while they are here.  Remember we live in St. Louis so it can be warm and sunny when we arrive and cold and wet when we leave.  Also please remember to dress your child in appropriate foot wear we will go outside everyday in less it is raining.

Take Home Projects
Your child's apple with their picture on it is due next week.  If you have not done so already please return next week so we may be able to make our book for our class to enjoy.  I am still missing quite a few apples.

Upcoming Dates
Friday, October 11 is Trunk or Treat at Zion.  I know that date is earlier than usual, but with our school schedule this year, that date works best.  This is a night of fun and fellowship held in Zion's parking lot. There will be more detailed information coming home through the Banner.

Saturday, October 12, 2013 PDO Fall Party form 9:00-11:00 come join us for some fun activities and your child will be able to show off their Halloween Costume.  This again is earlier than usual, but with our school schedule this year, that date works best!  There will be more detailed information coming home in the weeks to come.

Please enjoy our day through pictures and look at all the fun things we did.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at hhorn@zionharvester.org

We had fun playing farm animal memory and doing farm animal puzzles this morning

Nicholas got into the farm theme by playing with our farm animals we had out to play with

Kaleb and Evan have become good friends and love to play with the trains together

Mrs. Burke  helped the students to match up the animal pieces

Our painting activity today was to paint a red tractor.

All of the students were able to identify the tractor.

Addison and Isaac were very engrossed in painting their red tractor

Sarah had a lot of fun putting the shapes in our cube puzzle

Jacob and Noah painting their red tractor

Sarah being very careful to paint just the tractor

Sophia had a lot of fun painting her tractor

Will and Gwen concentrating on painting their tractors

Rose had a little peoples audience watching her paint her red tractor

Evan had his trains close by to watch him paint what he likes to call his John Deere

Sophia and Nicholas corralling the animals into the farm fence

A late morning breakfast taking place in the housekeeping area

Gwen excited to show me that the Barn is red and that it had the letter B on the page!

Kaleb painting his red tractor

Nicholas dipping his paint brush in the container remember less is more

We used the paint daubers today to help us with the letter of the week.  The letter E.

Noah playing with the trains

Isaac saw Sarah playing with the puzzle cube so decided to take his turn at it.

Bingo daubers are a great way to work on self control and just using it in the circles provided

When we are using the paint dauber we use the phrase Up and Down so they do not press to hard

For our alphabet book we will bring home in May we did some elbow painting for the letter E

Rose showing off her Elbow with her cute Doc McStuffin hairdo.

Evan chose green paint for his elbow like a John Deere Tractor

Working on our coloring page of the letter E for Elephant check your child's folder for their Alphabet sheet

Noah working on his paint dauber page

Isaac not to sure about the elbow painting

Nicholas loved the elbow painting

Jacob not to sure

Sarah chose green

We did puzzles after snack to work on our math skills

Today we stamped animals on our number 6 page for our creation book that will becoming home in two weeks

And we glued a feather for the birds and stamped a dolphin for day 5 of our creation book

We had lots of fun identifying the different animals we stamped on our number 6

Stamping is a great way to work on our muscles and to practice pressing down

We did head outside after a short circle time but unfortunately my ipod battery was depleted so I have no pictures of playing outside sorry for the incoveince.

After our outside play we came in had a short circle time and then did centers

One of the centers we did today was practice tracing the outline of an octagon

Another center was gluing two of the same type of animal on the number 2

This center I allowed the students to do it all on their own and I was pretty impressed with how well they did.
Even if they made a circle around the octagon it still was a good way to get them working towards staying on the line

We had lots of gluing the animals on Farmer Fred's paper

We made our own farm with farm animal stamps

Will made a long track for his trains during center time

Noah decided to help

We had lots of fun identifying the different animals

Evan using the glue stick to glue his animals down

Gwen working on her Farmer Fred Page

We are trying to help the students become a little more independent when working in the centers like using the glue sticks themselves

This activity was not only to help us remember what an octagon looks like but to help us with our pre writing skills

How to hold the marker

We did a pattern strip today of Barn Pig Barn Pig

The students worked with the glue and helped build the pattern

This was a great fine motor skill as well as each child had to pick up the paper with the barn or pig and place it on their paper

The students were given help with the first two and then I let them figure out which came next

This is a skill we will work on a lot through out the year

patterning is heavily focused on in preschool so we are helping pave that way

even if the child is unable to get the pattern they are being exposed to the concept

Music and Movement

Baby Bumble Bee

Shake shake your head

a oldie but goodies the hammer song

We really get a work out with this song

I love to watch the students work on the coordination of all their body parts they are getting really good at it.

We read lots of farm stories today and had fun learning about the farm and will continue next week and we will add apples into our theme.  Have a wonderful weekend enjoy the beautiful weather we are suppose to have.  Spend time with your family and if you are looking for a place to worship we would love to see you join us at Zion for our 5:00 on Saturday or our 8 9:30 or 11:00 services on Sunday.  God's Blessings to you all and look forward to seeing you all next week.
