Room A
Thursday, September 05, 2013
What a terrific Thursday we had in Room A! With the start of a new month means a new color (red) a new shape (octagon) a new number (2) and a new theme of Bible stories (creation) we also worked on the Letter C this week and making the hard C sound.
Reminders
If your child was not here on Tuesday please be sure to check your child's folder for all of their August work. A few things have been pulled and are being kept for a portfolio that you will receive the last week of school in May. Everyone needs to check their child's folders for todays coloring sheet for the letter C.
Clothing
Please make sure your child is wearing school appropriate clothing. We do get messy in our classroom from painting and other fun centers we do during the day as well as we do go outside and play. Each child needs to have a change of clothing in their backpack in case of accidents or extremely dirty clothing. This includes a top, bottom, underwear, socks. If you have a girl and they wear a dress to school and are wearing underwear we strongly advise that they wear a pair of shorts or bloomers under their dress.
Please enjoy our day in pictures and description. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at hhorn@zionharvester.org
Today we started with painting a RED flower
I was so impressed to see how so many of the students painted just the flower!
We also continued to work on less is more so we don't use way to much paint
Our friends are getting much better at not having so much paint on their brush at one time
While some of our friends were painting our other friends were working on an apple puzzle activity
As each child got ready to paint I asked them what they were going paint and what color they were going to use
Another activity we did this morning was pre writing page where the students had to trace a straight line from the little girl on the page to the apple tree. Mrs. Linneman and Nicholas are demonstrating the hand over hand technique
Some students need a little guidance to get started but were able to complete the task on their own from there
This activity is great to teach students how to start from the left and work to the write as well as how to hold their writing instrument
Mrs. Burke helped some of the younger ones with the apple puzzle. Puzzles are a great problem solving activity and pre math skill activity
While some centers were taking place we had free play going on too. Noah had a great time playing with the farm and the farm animals this morning
Rose was getting ready to open up shop in the house keeping area
Friends playing together always makes for a happy classroom
Each child was ask to come over and try the apple puzzles out we like to see the students at least attempt to do all the activities in the morning.
Centers are something that we like each child to accomplish and are done on a more one on one setting
We talked about the letter C today.
C is for Caterpillar
We had a lot of fun stamping three Caterpillars on our next page in our alphabet book
Each child was told that C is for Caterpillar and then shown how the "C" sound is made
I then asked the students to repeat the "C" sound to me.
We talked about some other things that start with the letter C
Stamping is a great skill to teach self control
During our morning circle we read Splish Splash it was a silly book about some animals going in a boat
We also continued talking about the color red and were shown the color red in our color book
We but our red objects on our board.
The number 2 came to visit as well today
We practiced counting 2 red apples.
We started talking about the story of how God made the world in 7 days. Today we focused on day one and day two
Mr Weather Frog got dressed today some friends I think are ready for winter they felt he needed some mittens and his winter coat!
After snack we practiced lacing buttons
We also worked on the first two pages in our creation book
On day one God created the dark and the light
On Day two God created the sky and water
For Day one the students had to glue black on part of the number one
and yellow on the second half to show the light
For Day two the students clued on two clouds and color the number 2 blue
Doing the number one was kind of like a puzzle as students had to figure out where the light and the dark went
We also had to try our best to put them in the correct spot to cover the number one
We used two clouds for day two to help us work on the number of the month
We also practiced counting our two clouds
When our clouds were glued on we had to color the number 2 to represent the water God had created
As each child came to do this center we re told the story of How God created on Day one the light and the dark and on day two God created the sky and the water
Repetition at this age is very important and you will see a lot of repetition through out the year
During our second circle we read the book The Bus Stop and reviewed the colors of the rainbow
We also did our color identification board where I draw a picture and the students need to tell me what color I am using.
We then headed outside to play it was a lot warmer outside today so we were not out as long as we sometimes are
Addison had a great time playing with the big green ball
Scarlett tried to ride the bike but her legs were not quite long enough to reach the pedals
Jacob had fun chasing the yellow ball
Will enjoyed the red bike
As Gwen discovered her legs grew over the summer!
Rose enjoyed playing in the rock pit
Isaac and Will enjoyed some cooling off time in the house
Nicholas attempted to climb on the climber
After we came inside and cleaned up and got a drink we started our center time.
Mrs. Linneman and Scarlett started with making Octagon man
Amelija practiced using the red bingo dauber to make the number two by following the octagon path
Addison started with making a crab to help us remember what the letter C looks like and sounds like.
Octagon man turned out to be very interesting for some of our friends
We practiced using the glue bottles all on our own this is another area where the rule "less is more"
comes into play
We are focusing a little more on the alphabet this year and the students are having a great time with exploring our letters of the week
Mrs. Burke and Evan working together with the paint daubers.
Will working hard on Octagon Man
Some friends are still little to squeeze the glue bottle so they got some help from Mrs. Linneman
Ask your child if they can make the "C " sound like in the word CRAB
It was reviewed that C is for Crab Caterpillar and Car tracks today.
Paint daubers are a great fine motor skill and you will begin to see us use these more and more through out the year
Octagon Man was a big hit
During center time the students are given the opportunity to play with selected toys
Korrinne and Amelija built their own train track
Evan was very busy playing with his Combine
Nicholas had fun playing with the trains
Will played with the red fire engine
We finished up our center time with coloring a picture of a Crab
Be sure to check your child's folder for their coloring sheet
All of my friends are doing a great job with coloring
We then got ready for music and movement
We sang Clap Clap Clap your hands to help us learn to follow directions
Shaking our head was lots of fun
We then did Head Shoulders Knees and Toes
We then prayed for lunch
After lunch we had our Good Bye Circle of the day where we did an old favorite the Itsy Bitsy Spider, Peanut Butter and Jelly and The Hammer Song
We read and Alphabet book Alligator Alphabet and said goodbye to Morris the Monkey!
Whew! We did a lot of fun things today, sang some silly songs and read some neat books. I hope you enjoyed looking at our day and you all have a wonderful weekend with your families. As a reminder if you are looking for a church Home Zion is a great place to worship. We have a 5:00 service and three services on Sunday at 8:00, 9:30 and 11. Mrs. Burke, Mrs. Linneman and myself are all members at Zion and would love to have you come worship with us. I look forward to seeing you all next week and God's Blessings to you all.
