Room A
Thursday, September 12, 2013

We had a fun filled crazy day in Room A complete with a fire drill which did really really well at!  We continued our study on the color red, the octagon shape the number 2 and the story of How God created the world in seven days!  This week we have been working on the letter D and had a lot of fun making dinosaurs and saying the "D" sound.  We are really working hard  on using our listening ears and making sure that we are using our walking feet in the classroom.

Reminders

Please remember that we are an early childhood program and we do get messy when we are here so please do not dress your child in something that you do not want to get ruined.  Also if you have a little girl and they are going to wear a dress they need to either have a pair of shorts or bloomers on under their dresses.

Take Home Project

If your child was not here on Tuesday in their folder is an apple that you will need to return with a picture of your child on it.  We are going to make a classroom book for the kids to help learn everyone in the classroom.  If everyone could please return this by the end of the month that would be great!

Worship

If you are looking for a place to worship we would love for you to join us at Zion.  We have church services on Saturday evenings at 5:00, Sunday mornings at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00.

Please enjoy our day through pictures there are not as many as usual as we got really busy today and I forgot to take pictures I apologize.  If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at hhorn@zionharvester.org

We put our fine motor skills to work today.  By lacing some buttons on string.

Rose had fun during free play playing with the school bus.

Noah was ready for circle time soon after he got here is was ready to get the day started.

Sarah had fun playing with the little farm house.

La La La Elmo's World we had fun painting a red picture of Elmo!

It was so much fun to see how all the students were able to identify Elmo right away.

Noah was very excited about painting Elmo red!

Evan and Kaleb have become good buddies and we are excited to have Kaleb join us on Thursdays as well as Tuesdays.

Nicholas had a lot of fun grouping all the farm animals together

Isaac was super excited to paint Elmo and told me he was red.

Will did a great job trying to paint just Elmo

Gwen was working on just painting Elmo and not the whole paper

Jacob enjoyed painting him too.

Evan laughed the whole time he painted Elmo and kept saying Elmo

Painting is something we do every day in our classroom and it is usually one of the first centers we will do in the morning.

We have been painting with just a brush these first few weeks of school but will begin to paint with other things as we progress during the school year.

Painting is a great pre writing skill as we work on holding the paint brush the correct way.

Team work!  I love to see children working together.  Isaac and Noah helped each other with stringing the buttons together.

Fire Drill!  We did an awesome job getting out of the building and away from the Sonshine Center to practice our fire drill

We had 15 children to get out the door and away from the building.

We practice through out the year so the children are prepared in the event of an emergency and so the teachers are prepared too.

After our fire drill we came back in and worked on our cutting skills

Today we practiced cutting a strip of red paper to glue on a piece of paper

We also continued our work on the letter "D"

We colored a picture of a Dinosaur be sure to check your child's folder for their coloring page.

Noah had help with cutting hand over hand and then glued his pieces on to his paper.  A great fine motor skill because they had to pick up each square and place it on the paper

Amelija successfully cut and glued all of her red squares by herself

Using a glue bottle also allows the students to work their hand muscles

We have a lot of students who are starting to be able to cut all on their own.

We also talk a lot about less is more when we are using glue bottles.

Some of our friends still need help with the glue but are able to pick up the paper and place it on the paper on their own

Mrs. Linneman and Addison working on cutting using hand over hand.

Cutting with scissors is such an important skill to master and we are helping them get a jump start on it before they start preschool.

Cutting with scissors is something you can work on at home with your child as long as they are supervised.

Even if you are not comfortable with them using scissors you could always have them glue things you have cut out.

We made the next page in our alphabet book that will come on in May

We had fun stamping Dinosaurs on our alphabet pages

Be sure to ask your child how to make the d sound

It was fun to listen to the student go around the room making the "D" sound.

Isaac had fun scooping and dumping in the rock pit.

Will was ready to play some serious basketball

A basketball hoop was added to our outside play today which was a lot of fun!

Amelija and Korrinne have become good friends this year and had fun balancing on the tides

Scarlett had fun digging in the dirt with the boys from one of the preschool classes

Sarah was off and ready to go in her car

Sophia had fun making music on our music maker outside

Evan working his muscles on the climber

Noah was off and running the minute we hit outside

We made a dinosaur when we came back inside during center time.

We also worked on stamping an octagon on a piece of paper as a stop sign to help Officer Bob with his cars.

We had to put 4 spikes on our dinosaur so we had to count to 4 as we put on the spikes

Will decided to color officer Bob

Sophia was hard at work sponge painting 2 apples on her apple tree

Gwen had to count two feet for her dinosaur

Isaac had to count one tail for his dinosaur

Kaleb, Rose and Amelija all colored Officer Bob after they had stamped their octagon.

Gwen worked on her creation book by putting flowers and trees on the number three and the sun moon and stars on the number 4.  Our creation books will come home after we finish learning about the seven days of creation.

Addison and Sarah had fun playing with the little people

Evan continued to work hard on building a train track

Noah kept making the "d"sound as he made his dinosaur

Amelija  counted her spikes before putting them on her dinosaur

Evan wanted to put his spikes on last.

Sarah made the "d" sound too as she built her dinosaur

Each child had to draw their own eyes and mouth on their dinosaur with a brown marker

Each dinosaur was unique and different

Making our own eyes and mouths helped us with body awareness

It was then time for music and movement

We had to shake our knees

move our arms

and raise up to the sky

Here are the books we read today as well as one not pictured titled One Tractor.

We had a lot of fun today and explored and learned a lot too.  I hope you enjoyed our day through pictures as much as we enjoyed all of our experiences.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and are able to enjoy your time with friends and family and the beautiful weather we are suppose to have.  God's Blessings to you all and see you next week.
