This week studies:
This is our final week together and I want to say THANK YOU so much for sharing your child with us this year we have truly enjoyed having them in our classroom. What an amazing amount of growth has occurred over 10 short months. Potty training, language development, tons of fine motor skills: learning to cut with scissors, painting and coloring with control to name a few. We have learned how to share, work together and cooperation The highlight of our year was learning how to be a good friend and show God's love to others.
Our Bible story this week comes from Act 2.
Acts 2
English Standard Version (ESV)
The Coming of the Holy Spirit
2 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested[a] on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven.6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
Peter's Sermon at Pentecost
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.[b] 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:“‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,17 and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;18 even on my male servants[c] and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy. And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;19 20 the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.21 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus,[d] delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God,you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25 For David says concerning him,“‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope.27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption.28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne,31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,“‘The Lord said to my Lord,“Sit at my right hand,35 until I make your enemies your footstool.”’
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
The Fellowship of the Believers
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[e] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
The children will learn:
The Holy Spirit is something special, that we can each feel inside. It's what helps us to know God's love, to lead good lives, and to help others understand more about God.
For the adults:
God wants all Christians to tell others the Good News that Jesus died and rose again and all who believe will live in heaven forever. The Holy Spirit will help share this message.

Today we continued with the class broken up into a different groups. This is to help those going to preschool in the fall an idea of how centers may be ran in the classroom. It went really well and the students had a lot of fun doing lots of different activities.
Free Choice Play
This is the time in the morning that as we are coming into the classroom we are given the opportunity to explore the room, play with our friends and get ready for a fun filled day in PDO! We at this time work on our social skills such as asking to take turns, sharing toys and cooperating with our friends.

Pentecost
Today we talked about the Holy Spirit so during one of our centers we glued a white dove onto a cross and red orange and yellow paper to signify fire. As we worked on this project Mrs. Linneman talked to the children what happen when the Holy Spirit came and what Jesus told the disciples. We also worked on our color identification of red orange and yellow as well as reviewed the shape of a cross. We practice our fine motor skills as we had to pick up the pieces of paper and put them on our cross. Our glue bottles were being stubborn today so Mrs. Linneman was in charge of distributing the glue!

LET'S GO FLY A KITE...
Today we worked our pre-writing skills by coloring a picture of a kite. That we discovered was in the shape of a diamond which happens to be the shape we are studying this month. Mrs. Burke helped the students with identifying the different colors we were using as we practiced coloring inside the lines.

PATTERNING....
Mrs. Linneman also worked with the children today to make a pattern of purple orange purple orange on diamond shapes using bingo daubers. The diamonds were already marked with the colors they needed to be and the children had to match the right bingo dauber to the correct color on the diamond. After the child completed the pattern they reviewed the pattern with Mrs. Linneman. We have done really well patterns this year and it is fun to see them make their own patterns!

THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR ATE MY LETTER...
As we wind down the school year and we have been talking about the Very Hungry Caterpillar we tied that into learning the first letter of our name today. As we used bingo daubers to see if the Caterpillar ate the letter to our first name. We had some pretty Hungry Caterpillars! We worked on fine motor control as we used the bingo daubers to go up and down on our letter and we also worked on letter identification. Mrs. Burke would ask the children what letter their name began with before handing them their caterpillar.

BUG MATCHING....
We had fun matching different bugs today. It was a version of memory we had different colored bugs that were different colors. This game was great to work on 1:1 correspondence as well as find things that were alike, identifying different colors and working together to make a match.

CUTTING....
We have practiced our cutting skills all year long and today we practiced cutting out a diamond shape and then a strip of colored paper to glue onto our diamond. I am so proud of how well of our students are doing with their cutting skills. There was never intention for them to master this skill but to merely be exposed to using scissors and I am amazed how well they are doing.

STICKERS AND DIAMONDS.....
Today we gave the students a sheet of white circle stickers Mrs. Burke then helped them chose a color and color their stickers. Once their stickers were colored we got busy using our pincer grasp to peel the sticker off the sheet and use them to trace the outline of a diamond.

BEAUTIFUL COLORFUL BUTTERFLIES....
To go along with our butterfly theme we painted a butterfly on one side and then folded our butterfly in half and looked at the pretty design we made. We talked about how butterfly wings are the same on both sides and again talked about how delicate they are. Our painting all year has helped us be creative, learn about our colors, learn about new objects and to work on holding a writing tool.

MORNING CIRCLE.....
As we have all year we practiced our counting, identified our colors and shapes, dressed Mr. Weather Frog and learned about the teachings of Jesus and read a story. Today we kept in our theme of Eric Carle books and read Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear?

AFTER SNACK CIRCLE...
Our circle time after snack all year has consisted of finger plays, flannel board stories, working on our color identification, and learning our alphabet. During the second half of the year we started working on a few songs to help with self regulation and our finger and hand muscles. We also spend time reading books, today we watched a video of the story book The Mixed Up Chameleon by Eric Carle, this went in with our review of colors and reading books by Eric Carle.

TABLE ACTIVITIES....
We spent some time at the tables today working on our fine motor skills stringing big buttons on pieces of string, sorting colored bears in different bowls and playing our cookie match games.

PLAYTIME......
The theme seemed to be this year switching rooms because we could not go outside and play due to weather conditions....so it was only fitting that our last week of PDO we would not be able to go outside due to weather conditions. We headed over to Mrs. Derrington's room to check out the fun toys she had to play with. While we waited to go over we practiced standing in the hallway and sang If Your Happy and You Know It.... I think we are ready for preschool!

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT....
I have loved this time of day with all my little friends this year. We had so much fun learning, singing, dancing and exploring during this time of day. This was a great way for us to express ourselves and get all the sillies out before we ate lunch! We did a lot of fun songs today...Shake Your Body Down, Five Days Old, I am Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee, The Wheels on the Bus, Clap your Hands, and Five Little Ducks.

WHAT ANIMAL IS IT.......
We transition to lunch with identifying our animals. This has been a great introduction into different animals where they live, what they look like and what they sound like. The students love this "game" and have really learned how to self regulate themselves and wait their turns. Ask your child what animal they had today you might be surprised by what they can tell you about their animal.

TIME AFTER LUNCH.....
Since we were unable to go outside after lunch we reviewed our Butterfly song which they all know s well, ready The Very Hungry Caterpillar, did our color identification board and listened to different sounds we heard and tried to identify them. Ask your child what types of sounds they heard today a few were a fire truck, a helicopter, a clock, a race car, a plane and many more!

FINALLY WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
Today as part of our study of the rainbow we charted what our favorite color today. Each child visited my center today and I asked them if they could tell me their favorite color once we established their favorite color we painted their hand and put it on the same line as their favorite color. We then talked about what the classes favorite color and least favorite color was. Be sure to check the hallway to see what color is your child's favorite.
Whew what a busy day we had and we had a lot of fun with all we did today. I am deeply going to miss each and everyone of my little friends. Have a wonderful evening and I look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday. Stay dry and warm!
