This week studies:
PLEASE BE SURE TO LOOK AT ALL OF THE BLOG TODAY MY FINAL WORDS ARE AT THE BOTTOM:)
Our Bible story this week comes from Act 2.
Acts 2
English Standard Version (ESV)
The Coming of the Holy Spirit
2 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested[a] on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven.6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
Peter's Sermon at Pentecost
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.[b] 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:“‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,17 and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;18 even on my male servants[c] and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy. And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;19 20 the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.21 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus,[d] delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God,you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25 For David says concerning him,“‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope.27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption.28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne,31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,“‘The Lord said to my Lord,“Sit at my right hand,35 until I make your enemies your footstool.”’
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
The Fellowship of the Believers
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[e] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
The children will learn:
The Holy Spirit is something special, that we can each feel inside. It's what helps us to know God's love, to lead good lives, and to help others understand more about God.
For the adults:
God wants all Christians to tell others the Good News that Jesus died and rose again and all who believe will live in heaven forever. The Holy Spirit will help share this message.

Today we continued with the class broken up into a different groups. This is to help those going to preschool in the fall an idea of how centers may be ran in the classroom. It went really well and the students had a lot of fun doing lots of different activities.
Free Choice Play
This is the time in the morning that as we are coming into the classroom we are given the opportunity to explore the room, play with our friends and get ready for a fun filled day in PDO! We at this time work on our social skills such as asking to take turns, sharing toys and cooperating with our friends.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE SHAPE?
Today the students chose their favorite shape and we painted their hand that shape and put it on our chart. We had a lot of friends who loved the green heart. This was a great way for us to review the shapes and colors we learned this year. I would have a student come over and we go through the shapes I would then ask them what their favorite shape was and after they selected their shape we would identify the color and paint their hand. This was also a way for us to practice our pre-math skills as we counted which shape was liked the most and what shape was like the least.
THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR ATE MY NUMBER 10!
As we have talked about the very hungry caterpillar all month we discovered he was very hungry today when he ate the number 10! We had to find the number 10 buy using a bingo dauber to help us recognize and identify the number 10 we then practiced counting the 10 circles that made up our caterpillar. Every month our goal was to expose our students to a different number we did not expect them to be able to identify the number, but I was amazed how many of them are able to identify a handful of their numbers 1-10. Many of them are able to count to 10 as well.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY......
To go along with our review of the colors of the rainbow and how the very Hungry Caterpillar became a beautiful butterfly we used our watercolor paints to paint a beautiful butterfly. We talked about the different colors we were using and which colors were our favorite. Again each month our goal was for our friends to become exposed to a certain color there was no expectation for them to remember the color, but many are able to identify the basic 7 colors along with brown and white.

RAINBOW STICKERS TO MAKE A DIAMOND....
Today we tied in our review of our colors by using different colored stickers to make the outline of our shape of the month the diamond. We talked about things that could be the shape of a diamond and the most popular answer was a KITE! We also talked about how we make the diamond shape when we sing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star at our morning circle. Our goal in PDO was for the children to be exposed to a different shape each month the expectation was not for them to be able to identify that shape but to just have seen it before. I was pretty amazed when you ask them what certain shapes are and if you correlate it to something they are able to tell you the shape, examples would be what shape tells us to STOP? an Octagon. What did Jesus die on to save us from our sins? A Cross. The shape of my door is a Rectangle. My window is the shape of a Square. Using the stickers was a great way for us to work on using our pincer grasp as we took the sticker off the sticker sheet (which many of our students could not do at the beginning of the year) and place it on the outline of the diamond.

MY NAME STARTS WITH THE LETTER?
We first colored circle stickers using our favorite crayon and after we had finished coloring our stickers we had to find the first letter of our name on the butterfly wings and place a sticker over that letter. As we were handed our butterfly we were asked what letter our name began with. It is was really neat to see how many of the students were able to tell you what letter their name started with and if they couldn't if you showed them that letter they recognized it and then were able to tell you the letter.

MORNING CIRCLE
We said goodbye to Mr. Weather Frog today as dressed him for the chilly weather we are experiencing this week, we said goodbye to our colorful color board, and we practiced counting 10 butterflies that were in a beautiful green, purple, pink pattern. We talked about how much we learned that about Jesus and that we need to remember that Jesus is always with us in our hearts and is always there for us to talk to. We sang Jesus Loves Me and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star one last time and they sang it beautifully! We prayed for snack one last time and waited patiently for our color of butterfly to be called so we could practice hopping on two feet to line up for snack.
SECOND CIRCLE.....
After snack we said our alphabet sounds one last time, the children did great with this activity this year. It was great way to expose the children to the alphabet, for them to see the letters and to hear what the letters sound like. We did the Five Finger Symphony one last time, did our Five Little Birdies finger play, our flannel board story about Five Colorful Butterflies then we got silly and Jumped and counted to our silly Jumping song!

LOOK MRS. HORN IT IS A CRANE.........
While we were in the middle of our second circle some of my friends saw the huge crane arrive and so since we knew we would not be able to go outside due to how wet our playground was we decided to take a seat and watch the action going on outside. What a great learning opportunity for the children we saw the crane get prepared we talked about how heavy it was and what it was going to pick up. The crane was going to pick up two big air conditioner units for the new building that many of our friends will be visiting next year! We talked about how heavy the air conditioners were and the color of the trucks and the crane. Some of our friends were a little frightened by the noise so they chose to stay inside and watch from the door. We were outside for a good 20 minutes and we were all totally enthralled by what we watched. A big thank you to the construction crew this year for letting us be a part of the process by watching and observing.

THEME OF THE YEAR LETS GO TO MS. DERRINGTONS ROOM TO PLAY BECAUSE IT IS TO ICKY TO GO OUTSIDE!
We had fun playing in the other room one last time this year. We have been inside so much this year that going to the other PDO room this year became second nature to us. It did give us a chance to explore and play with new toys in a different classroom. It was hard to be inside so much this year and we made the best of it so it only seemed fitting to have to be inside the last week of PDO!

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT ONE LAST TIME....
I loved loved this time of day with my little friends we had fun singing, dancing, jumping and using our imaginations this year during this time of day. We were exposed to many different songs fast, slow, happy, sad and just plain silly songs. We practiced counting, listening and following directions. This group loves to sing and dance. We read a story about Rainbow Fish to tie into our rainbow theme. It was a lot of fun for one last time

MY FAVORITE ANIMAL IS ........
We prayed for lunch one last time and then we placed our animals on our board one last time. This activity has been great for this group to work on self regulation, patience, taking turns and following directions. When their animal was called they came up told me the sound the animal makes and where it lives. We learned a lot about different animals all year and I am surprised how much they all retained about them. Enjoy the animal board one last time!

GOODNIGHT MOON and GOODNIGHT GORILLA
Over the course of the school year I have tried to integrate into the classroom different types of media to the children whether it be a book on tape, reading a story from an electronic device or watching an interactive story on the computer. As well as all the different types of music we did. Today we watched two of our favorite storybooks be brought to life by watching Good Night Moon and Goodnight Gorilla. Technology is such an important part of education and just a snippet here and there in PDO helps open the worlds to learning even more!

A FUTURE WITH A HOPE JER. 29:11
Today was such a bittersweet day for me. We started the school year way back in August not sure of what the year would bring for all of us. I have to say in the words of some of my little friends it was and AMAZING year. It came with its challenges of a very cold and harsh winter where we had to tweak our schedule and playtime but we did it and we had fun while doing it! We were up rooted from our "home" after Christmas break but we managed do have a great time playing with new and old friends in the Family Life Center. We thank you all again for being so patient and understanding through that time. Our Spring was a chilly one and still did not allow us to get outside like we had hoped but we managed again! We were blessed the past couple of weeks some beautiful weather and we took full advantage of our time outside.
All of my little friends started the school year quiet and not sure what to expect and they end the school year, older and many ready to tackle the world of Preschool! I have watched all of them grow physically, emotionally, mentally and it has been one amazing journey to witness. We learned, played, explored, painted, sang, dance, imagined, listened and learned that no matter what Jesus loves us and will always be there for us. So thank you so much for allowing me the chance to spend the school year with your child for many of you this is the end of a two year journey and I wish you all much success in preschool. I will check in with all my little friends who are off to preschool at Zion next year to say hi and to steal a hug or two! To all those attending preschool somewhere else I wish you all the best and please come visit us there will always be a place for you at Zion. To those who will be returning to PDO in the fall I am eager to see you in August and learn of your adventures of the summer and for another great year in PDO! Your child is truly a blessing and a Future with a Hope and I wish you all the best. So one last time have a wonderful weekend enjoy time with your family and friends. If you are looking for a church home Zion would be happy to have you we have worship services at 5:00 on Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 9:30 and 11:00. Blessings on your summers may it be filled with love, laughter and lots of fun in the sun
