National Lutheran Schools Week has been fantastic. The favorite sports team was the Cardinals.
This month the learning concepts include the color white, the shape star, and the number six. Bible stories focus on King Herod and the Wise men, Jesus growing from baby to toddle, small child, Jesus teaching in the temple at age 12 and the Baptism of Jesus.
The class enjoyed going on a star hunt and finding white items in the classroom. We reviewed star, white and #6. Boys and girls enjoyed acting out various ways to play in the snow. We skated, threw snowballs, made snow angels, built a snowman and went skiing. Our sensory table is full of cotton balls to measure and scoop. The students enjoyed finger painting with purple and blue paint. They pretended their fingers were ice skating. We sang a few of our favorite songs and played in shaving cream. After reading the story of the Gingerbread Man the children searched the room and found that runaway cookie. The class had an opportunity to act out the nursery rhyme 3 Little Kittens. The children helped the kittens find their mittens. Play doh and the sensory table were activities that completed our day.
The Bible story today was the Baptism of Jesus. The lesson started with me pouring water in a bowl. We talked about what water is used for. Cleaning with water was stressed. We wash cars, clothes and hands to name a few. A puppet of John the Baptist, a dove(Holy Spirit) and Jesus was displayed. We talked about John and that he baptized Jesus. We discussed baptism in our church; how it is done and what it means. The children learned that with water and God's Word we are made washed clean from our sin. This would be a great opportunity for you to share pictures of your child's baptism and discussing this important event with them.

A Re-enrollment Note from Sara K.
> Dear PDO families,
> This week Zion starts the re-enrollment process for the 2014-2015 school year. Zion's PDO staff has enjoyed having your child(ren) in our program this year and would love for you to return to PDO or one of Zion's preschool classes for the 2014-2015 school year. A packet was to go home this week with each child. This packet contains a letter from Zion's Principal, gives pricing for the 2014-2015 school year, etc. Because of the snow days and PDO students not being in our regular classrooms, the packets did not come home this week. I am attaching the packet to this email. If you need a hard copy, please let me know and I will give you one next week.
>
> The following information is attached to this email:
> 1) Letter from Mr. Debrick, Zion's Principal
> 2) Pricing for 2014-2015
> 3) Joyful Response paper
> 4) Preschool letter (if your child is eligible for PS)
>
> An email will be sent out later today that will contain the link for you to get started with the re-enrollment process. If you don't receive that email, please contact me. In order for you to have your child's spot secured for the 2014-2015 school year, the following needs to be completed and turned in to the school office:
> 1) Enrollment information online
> 2) Joyful Response
> 3) Registration Fee ($125 for Preschool and $100 for Parent's Day Out)
>
> Just a reminder that you may pick your days for PDO and for PS that work best for your family. The only requirement is that for 3 year old Preschool, a child must attend at least 2 days a week; there is no requirement for PDO.
> Current Zion families have first priority for re-enrollment until the end of January. Starting February 1st, enrollment is opened up to the community. In the past few years, the PDO and Preschool enrollment has filled up very quickly, so I encourage you to re-enroll as soon as possible, especially if you are needing specific days.
>
> Zion will be hosting an Open House on February 9th from 1-3 p.m. Please invite your family and friends to come! You are more than welcome to come too, especially if you would like to meet Zion's Preschool staff.
