This Week Studies:

Jesus Time:
This week we will introduce the children to the Palm Sunday story-
The Triumphal Entry
Matthew 21
English Standard Version (ESV)
The Triumphal Entry
21 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,
5 “Say to the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your king is coming to you,
humble, and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt,[a] the foal of a beast of burden.’”
6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. 8 Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.
This story can also be found in Mark 11, Luke 19 and John 12.

Palm Sunday is an occasion for reflecting on the final week of Jesus' life. It is a time to prepare our hearts for the agony of His Passion and the joy of His Resurrection.

Concepts Children Learn:
Palm Sunday is a special day because it was told long before it happened how Jesus
would ride a little donkey into Jerusalem. The people welcomed Jesus.
Jesus loves to hear our praise!
We can praise Jesus with our words and actions.

We had fun painting our foot to make a donkey like Jesus rode in and then painted our hands green to look like the palm branches the people waved as Jesus rode in on the donkey.

Shape: Rectangle-- we talked about different things that could be the shape of a rectangle.

Color:  Yellow--we painted a yellow sun

Number:  8--practice counting to the number 8 and making the number 8 with our fingers, we put 8 apple stickers on our apple tree for a number book that will becoming home in May

Letter: W- Practicing saying the W sound and thinking of words that begin with W like water, whale, wheel, wonderful, wagon, watermelon.  We colored a picture of a Whale that should be in your child's folder.

Fine Motor:  stringing different foam shapes onto a pipe cleaner and playing with yellow play dough we used the bingo daubers to decorate a spring tree.  We practiced Where is Thumbkin to work on finger muscles and we also learned a new song that will help us with our finger muscles.

Pattern Work :  we also worked on a pattern of green and yellow shamrocks on our morning pattern/number board

Pre-Writing: we used different markers to trace different lines.

Music and Movement:  We got to play outside today!  We also sang some songs and had fun being different animals during our Animal Action Song and Shaking our Body Down.

OUTSIDE WEAR & CLOTHING
It is extremely important in the months to come that your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor weather.  Your child will need a hat and coat for outside play.  It is also important that your child has a COMPLETE CHANGE OF CLOTHES (shirt, pants, underwear (if potty trained) socks and extra pair of shoes.)  It is going to be wet and muddy so please make sure your child is prepared.  EXTRA SHOES ARE A MUST!  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we get ready for warmer weather and being able to get outside and play!

Enjoy our day below and as always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at hhorn@zionharvester.org

Max enjoyed playing with the dinosaurs this morning during free play

Rose enjoyed looking at a My Little Pony book to match her My Little Pony Shirt

Korrinne was being a good friend helping Scarlett pull up her sleeves at the play dough table

What a great sensory activity today we painted our foot gray for the Donkey for our Palm Sunday Picture

Each child got their foot painted gray and then we painted our hands green for the Palm Branches

We worked with bingo daubers today to decorate a Spring Tree

Using Bingo Daubers helps us work on self control

It also allows us to work on holding a writing instrument

We practiced the motion of going up and down

Not pressing to hard is also a key to using the bingo daubers

All of the children in the class had the opportunity to complete a spring Tree

W is for Whale as we colored a picture of a Whale

We practiced tracing lines to work on more of our Pre-Writing skills

We practice working left to right

Holding our marker the correct way

and working on following the line

We are not expecting them to master the skill just to be exposed to the skill.

It is neat to watch the progression of how well the students are doing at staying on the lines and following the lines

Max working very hard going from left to right

This activity is also great to help the students with pre-reading skills as well

Morning circle we are doing great at singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Here is our Book we read today, our Bible Story and our number of the Month

This is our last week for the color yellow

Oh MR. Weather Frog will he ever see shorts again?

We had fun painting a yellow sun

We talked about how the sun is hot and big and far away.

After our painting activity we had some quiet book time

Looking at books is some important even at this young age

Learning how to hold the book the correct way

And which way to turn the pages is huge steps into the world of reading

We also work on treating books with love and care

I often say books are our friends

Mrs. Burke reading with a group of children.

Julija counting out her 8 apples for her apple book

Counting to 8 is hard work

Using the stickers also helps us reinforce our fine motor skills

We did great counting to 8

Be looking for these books to come home in May

As the students placed the stickers on we practiced counting to 8

We worked our fine motor skills by stringing different foam shapes onto a pipe cleaner

I was very impressed with how well the students were able to do this activity

Kaleb working on stringing his shapes

Kaleb and Max working on counting to 8

Scarlett peeling her apple stickers off and putting them on her tree

It was quite chilly outside today but it was good to get out even for a few minutes for some fresh air.

Working on our balancing

We had some more rock delivered over spring break and along with that came some new toys to play with

Scooping and digging are great ways to work on fine motor skills

Mrs. Burke helping push the rocks back into the rock pit

We had fun filling up some cupcake holders

Playing house

Helping Mrs Burke sweep up the rocks

We had fun doing a leprechaun finger poem, learning about the letter W, doing the sounds of our alphabet and reading about a Whale that used his tail to paint.

We had fun matching cookies with our friends

This activity was great for us to work together.

Max and Scarlett had a match

Evan and Korrinne had a match

Isaac and Sophia discovered they matched

and the Fredrick sisters matched!

Shake Shake Shake your head

Clap Clap Clap your hands

We practiced waiting our turn to put our animal on our board. Noah had a monkey

Sophia a seal

Rose had a dog

Kaleb had a fish

Natalia had a chick

Evan had a seahorse

Korrinne had an elephant

Max had a cow

Isaac had a rhino

Amelija had a lobster

Addison a goat

Julija a cat

and Scarlett had a turtle.  Not only are the children waiting their turn but they have to use their listening ears to hear when their animal is called.

Two more books that we read today!

Here is our color identification board and a shamrock poem we did today

Our completed animal board

Shake your body down

Our review board from what we did today

We had a great first day back and we were busy learning and and exploring today.  We reviewed our color, number and shape of the month that we will say goodbye to at the end of this week.  We continue to work on using our walking feet, our inside voices and making sure we have our listening ears on.  Have a wonderful evening and I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday.
