This Weeks Studies:
Jesus Time:
This week we will introduce the children to the Palm Sunday story-
The Triumphal Entry
Matthew 21
English Standard Version (ESV)
The Triumphal Entry
21 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,
5 “Say to the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your king is coming to you,
humble, and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt,[a] the foal of a beast of burden.’”
6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. 8 Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.
This story can also be found in Mark 11, Luke 19 and John 12.
Palm Sunday is an occasion for reflecting on the final week of Jesus' life. It is a time to prepare our hearts for the agony of His Passion and the joy of His Resurrection.
Concepts Children Learn:
Palm Sunday is a special day because it was told long before it happened how Jesus
would ride a little donkey into Jerusalem. The people welcomed Jesus.
Jesus loves to hear our praise!
We can praise Jesus with our words and actions.

Fine Motor: stringing different foam shapes onto a pipe cleaner and playing with yellow play dough we used the bingo daubers to identify the number 8. We practiced Where is Thumbkin to work on finger muscles and we also learned a new song that will help us with our finger muscles.
Pattern Work : we also worked on a pattern of green and yellow shamrocks on our morning pattern/number board
Pre-Writing: we used yellow markers to trace the lines to make a sun

OUTSIDE WEAR & CLOTHING
It is extremely important in the months to come that your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor weather. Your child will need a hat and coat for outside play. It is also important that your child has a COMPLETE CHANGE OF CLOTHES (shirt, pants, underwear (if potty trained) socks and extra pair of shoes.) It is going to be wet and muddy so please make sure your child is prepared. EXTRA SHOES ARE A MUST! Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we get ready for warmer weather and being able to get outside and play!
Enjoy our day below and as always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at hhorn@zionharvester.org
Sarah had a great time making different spring shapes with our yellow play dough
Scarlett excited to share the duck she made with the play dough.
Isaac working is arm and hand muscles by rolling out the play dough
Nicholas enjoyed playing with the cars and lining them up
We practiced our fine motor skills by stringing foam shape pieces onto a pipe cleaner
This took some practice and time as the pieces were small and the hole to fit them into the pipe cleaner was small.
Each child had their own technique of getting the shapes onto the pipe cleaner
Sarah counting out her 8 apple stickers for her apple book that will becoming home in May
Counting out 8 apples as well as working our fine motor and sensory skills as we work with the stickers
We made a rectangle collage today using different colors of paper cut into rectangles.
We practiced counting to eight and then glued them onto our paper
We not only were we working on our counting skills but we were also familiarizing ourselves with the shape of a rectangle
The students also worked on identifying the colors of their rectangles.
Addison and Noah in deep concentration stringing their foam shapes
Sarah counting her rectangles
This activity also provided an opportunity for us to work with using glue and our hands getting a little sticky.
Kaleb making his rectangle collage
Isaac and Evan had counted out their 8 rectangles and gluing them on their paper
Addison and Nicholas working with rectangles
Sophia identifying the colors oft he rectangles
We practiced tracing a yellow sun today for our pre writing activity
We had to trace the rays and the circle for the sun
This activity was designed for the student to become familiar with the shape of the sun a circle and the rays which were a straight line
As we worked on this activity it gave us the opportunity to talk about what color the sun is, and if it is close or far away from us and is it hot or cold?
This activity also helped us with holding a writing tool a yellow marker
We colored a picture of a watermelon for the letter W. Be sure to check your child's folder for this paper.
Amelija working on her sun
Will decided to trace the circle first and then trace the rays to the sun
Sophia and Rose started with the rays and then the circle for the sun.
This activity also allowed the students the opportunity to work from top to bottom and left to right
We ended our study of the number 8 by finding the number 8 on our number 8 chart
We used yellow bingo daubers to find the number 8 and each time we found a number 8 we said 8
This activity allowed the students to become familiar with the number 8.
It also allowed us to work with the bingo daubers and to have some self control with the dauber
Gwen and Will discovered that the whole page was full of the number 8
Exposing the students to the number is the first step in helping them recognize the number
Many of the students were able to tell me what number they were working with when they came over to start their activity.
Just by saying it over and over helps the students to be familiar with the number
WE finished our month with reviewing the number 8, identifying the color yellow and reading a story about Palm Sunday and a story about a Monster in a little Girls house
Mr. Weather Frog is ready for the rainy weather that we had this morning.

We worked on painting just the star.
We had book time were we sat and looked at a book.
Looking at books is a great way for us to begin the pre-reading process
Holding a book the correct way
Moving the pages left to right
We worked our pre-math skills by building with blocks
This was a center that the child was given a card and they were to match the color of blocks.
Will has his blocks and was getting ready to match the blocks up with the color
We practiced the first letter of our name today by cutting a strip of yellow paper and then gluing the pieces on our first letter
Each child was asked what their name started with and the majority of them were able to tell me.
We were able to incorporate our cutting skills and the color of the month with this activity as well.
Most of the students are able to pick up the scissors and begin cut a strip of paper on their own.
