This Week Studies:
Jesus Time:
Matthew 8: 23-27
Jesus Calms the Storm
23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!
This story can also be found in Mark 4:35-41 and Luke 8:22-25.
For us:
Two important points that reveal the true: He needed rest and time away from crowds, and He was so exhausted that even the battering of the boat did not awaken Him. These truths should help us realize that Jesus was genuinely human with the same basic needs we all have. Christ’s humanity is part of what qualifies Him to be our merciful intercessor between us and God the Father.
This passage also reveals Jesus' deity because only God can make the “winds and water obey". With one quick word from Christ, the storm abated and the sea became calm. The apostles marveled at this powerful display of Jesus’ supernatural ability over the elements. This can be immensely comforting to the Christian in a storm. Faith in Christ is never misplaced. If He can calm the storms of the sea with one word, He can calm the storms of life as well.
For PDO:
Jesus is powerful. He is with us all the time: through our troubles, when we are afraid or worried. He will take care of us, He will keep us safe. We had fun making the storm with shaving cream and blue paint and then we glued on a boat.

Color: Yellow--we painted a yellow school bus
Number: 8--practice counting to the number 8 and making the number 8 with our fingers, we had fun finding the number 8 in a shamrock and putting stickers on the number 8

OUTSIDE WEAR & CLOTHING
It is extremely important in the months to come that your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor weather. Your child will need a hat and coat for outside play. It is also important that your child has a COMPLETE CHANGE OF CLOTHES (shirt, pants, underwear (if potty trained) socks and extra pair of shoes.) It is going to be wet and muddy so please make sure your child is prepared. EXTRA SHOES ARE A MUST! Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we get ready for warmer weather and being able to get outside and play!
Enjoy our day below and as always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at hhorn@zionharvester.org
We love trying out the new puzzles
Addison and Korrinne working together to figure out how to open the different doors on the puzzles
We started our morning centers with gluing a black pot and cutting 8 pieces of paper and gluing them onto the green paper
Gwen and Korrinne carefully cutting their strips of paper that had the numbers 1-8 on them
This activity allowed us to work on our cutting skills many of the students are starting to be able to use the scissors on their own and hold the paper as well
We also had to work really hard using our hand muscles to squeeze the glue onto our paper for our black pot and our 8 pieces of gold
.
Today we worked on putting stickers on the first letter of our name
Addison cutting her pot of gold
This activity also allowed us to practice our counting skills
and to become familiar with the numbers 1-8
We had fun using the bingo daubers to decorate a shamrock
As we did this center we practiced saying the word shamrock. That can be kind of a tricky word!
We practiced our pre-writing skills by using a green marker and tracing the outline of a shamrock
As we used the bingo daubers we worked on staying inside the circles and not pressing down too hard.
Mrs. Linneman helped the students today paint a yellow school bus
Mrs. Burke helped the students color a picture of a Violin.
Isaac and Korrinne tracing their shamrocks
Rose painting a yellow school bus
Evan and Kaleb working on their shamrocks
This prewriting activity as all of them in our class are just an opportunity for the children to become exposed to using a writing instrument and to work on holding a writing instrument
We painted our yellow school bus and talked about other things that could be the color yellow
Natalia tracing her shamrock
More yellow painting
Many of our soon to be preschoolers are doing a great job just painting the picture and not the whole paper
Rose working on finding the number 8 on her shamrock
We had fun making rectangle robots today.
We started this process by looking at a robot on the computer and talking about the different parts of the robot
We then built our own robot we started with the head and then the students helped decide what was next we talked about how we have two arms and legs
After we glued our robot down we were able to complete our robot by making a face and putting any other accessories on them
Our Morning boards we were so excited that Mr. Weather Frog had his sunglasses and a sweatshirt on today!
We talked about the number 8, read the bible story Jesus Calms the Storm and read a book about Biscuit visiting the farm
As we got ready to go outside we did our Jesus raft for the day
Isaac combing off the extra shaving cream so that we can see the waves of the water
This activity got messy but allowed us to explore what it felt like and smelled like
It was kind of yucky for some of my friends to use but they all had fun doing it
As we did this activity we talked again about how Jesus told the storm to stop
And no matter how bad we think things are Jesus is always there
Evan cleaning off the extra shaving cream
Addison trying to figure out how to pick up the comb without getting to messy
We then headed outside!
It was so nice a pretty out today that we took full advantage of this day
It was fun to play with the toys we have not seen in quite sometime
We had fun playing in the leaves
exploring
Playing with our friends
Digging in the rocks
And just enjoying the weather
We came back in and had some music and movement and got ready for lunch.
We pulled out the board again this week and each child was given an animal and when their animal was called they got to come and place it on the board and find their seat for lunch
Kaleb had an Octopus
Gwen had a monkey
Scarlett had a crab
Korrinne had a horse
Natalia had a chick
Rose had a jellyfish
Evan had a turtle
Isaac had a Panda Bear
and Noah had a rooster
Our animal board is complete! This is a great activity to introduce different animals and to help with our listening skills and to learn self control as we wait for our turn to be called
Books we read and our letter of the day and we did go through our alphabet sounds
We are working on a finger play about Five Little Leprechauns
Our Color identification board for the day and a little shamrock story we have been enjoying the month of March
After lunch we enjoyed shaking our bodies down
and Jumping Higher and Higher
We reviewed our number, letter and shape of the month and we practiced our different emotions
We read one final story and then we headed back outside!
We had fun playing with balls
Riding in our cars
walking a balance beam
Future gymnast?
Pumping some gas
Go Addison Go!
Scarlett said this ball was heavy
Playing with our friends outside was a great way to end our day!
We had an awesome day! We played, explored and learned lots of fun things. We were able to experience the beautiful weather and to visit with new and old friends. I hope you are able to enjoy this weather before Old Man Winter tries to push his way back in.
